Dinesh Karthik will lead the Indian team in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 tournament that will take place between November 6-9

The Hong Kong Sixes 2025 is back, and will be played from November 6-9 in Mong Kok, Hong Kong. And after quite a bit of delay, the Indian squad has been announced for the tournament. As expected, India has gone with a bunch of retired players, with Dinesh Karthik set to lead the side.

Apart from him, there would be Robin Uthappa, Stuart Binny, Abhimanyu Mithun, Bharat Chipli, Shahbaz Nadeem and domestic veteran Priyank Panchal. The Hong Kong Sixes happens to be one tournament where somehow the Indian teams in the past haven’t been at their best.

Since the inception in 1992, India has only managed to win once — in 2005, and two runners-up finishes. On the other hand, Pakistan, England and South Africa have five titles each, while Sri Lanka — the current champions have two trophies to their name.

IN the last edition, India was led by Uthappa, with Manoj Tiwari, Binny, Shreevats Goswami, Kedar Jadhav, Chipli, and Nadeem in the team as well. Last year, this team had a poor outing, where in their Pool C, they lost both their encounters — to Pakistan and UAE. Interestingly, Sachin Tendulkar has played in the tournament multiple times in the 1990s, but for a very long time, retired players are preferred.

As far as the rules are concerned, it would be six overs a side match, with only the semis and final consisting of eight-ball overs. There are no free-hits on offer in case of a no ball, and a batsman is retired out upon scoring a fifty.

Retired Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was initially supposed to be a part of the Dinesh Karthik-led Indian side. However, he has been replaced as he is expected to go under the knife due to a knee injury.
