India squad for England Tests out, Gill to captain, Shami snubbed

India squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England has been announced and Shubman Gill is the new captain

India cricket team squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England has been announced. Ending days of speculation, chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced Shubman Gill as the new captain. The tour to the UK will mark Gill’s first assignment as skipper following Rohit Sharma’s abrupt decision to retire from Tests.

Rishabh Pant has been named the vice-captain and first-choice wicketkeeper. Dhruv Jurel will serve as the back-up keeper. Abhimanyu Easawaran, the India A captain, has also been included in the main squad. Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan has been rewarded for his consistent performances with a maiden call-up to the Test side.

Mohammed Shami has been left out of the squad. Other pacers include Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep. Arshdeep has also earned his maiden call-up to the Test team.

  • 1st Test: June 20 to June 24
  • 2nd Test: July 2 to July 6
  • 3rd Test: July 10 to July 14
  • 4th Test: July 23 to July 27
  • 5th Test: July 31 to August 4
