India Squad Asia Cup – KL Rahul Injury: India vice-captain KL Rahul is yet to recover from Covid-19. The dashing batter suffered a huge setback ahead of the West Indies tour when he tested positive for Covid-19. He has subsequently missed the Windies tour. While he has set Asia Cup as his return date, he is yet to recover from Covid. Furthermore, he will have to pass a fitness test before the squad selection. As per information available with InsideSport, Rahul was supposed to exit the 7-day isolation in Bengaluru. But he is yet to test negative. Once he gets two negative test results, he will undergo a mandatory cardiovascular test.

“No, he is yet to recover from Covid. Once he does, he will be back at NCA to complete his rehab. There will obviously be a fitness test before the Asia Cup to understand his fitness. But as he was close to recovery, it should not be a problem. There are still three weeks left for him,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

With no match practice, KL Rahul will struggle to get back to his full rhythm. India are likely to face Pakistan in the first match of the Asia Cup 2022 which will be held in Sri Lanka.

While Rahul would have got some important match practice during the West Indies tour, he was ruled out at the last moment. He has also not been named for the Zimbabwe tour.

  • As physios did not want to rush the return of KL Rahul, he was not named in the squad for Zimbabwe.

“Selectors have been selecting the squad via virtual meetings. But this time they will physically meet and select the Indian squad for Asia Cup. We are confident KL Rahul will recover for the event. The team needs his quality of player,” said a top BCCI official to InsideSport.

Asia Cup & T20 World Cup Squad? It is obvious that team picked for the Asia Cup will almost be the same that will travel to Australia for the T20 World Cup in October-November.

The same set of players will also feature in the six T20I games against Australia and South Africa in September and October.

Asia Cup Schedule: The full scheduled of the tournament is yet to be announced. Asian Cricket Council is likely to make an announcement on Monday and will release the full schedule of the tournament. The event was shifted to UAE from Sri Lanka recently.The tournament is set to kick off on August 27 with the final scheduled to be held on September 11.
