In India’s ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka, Ashwin picked up five wickets to surpass the record that the 1983 World Cup winning-skipper has held for years. In the first innings, the 35-year-old all-rounder picked up the wickets of Lahiru Thirimanne.

He was brilliant with the ball in the second innings as well, scalping the wickets of Thirimanne, Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka. The last dismissal was his 435th wicket in Test cricket, as he surpassed Dev’s figure of 434 Test wickets. He now has only Anil Kumble in front of him, who picked up 619 wickets in the longest format during his stint with the men in blue:
