India have a good middle-order ODI batter on their hands in Sarfaraz Khan, says Sanjay Manjrekar

Sarfaraz waited for long to get a call up to the Indian team and took the opportunity with both hands when the chance arrived, scoring half-centuries in both innings.

Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar on Sunday reckoned the Indian team has a good ODI middle-order batter on their hands in the form of Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan. Sarfaraz Khan impressed critics and cricket fans alike, scoring half-centuries in both innings of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test.

Sarfaraz Khan has become just the third Indian player after Dilawar Hussain and Sunil Gavaskar to score twin fifties on his Test debut.

Sarfaraz waited for long to get a call up to the Indian team and took the opportunity with both hands when the chance arrived. The batter scored 62 in the first innings of the 3rd Test. He got out in the first innings due to a horrible mix up with Ravindra Jadeja.

However, when he got another opportunity in the second innings, he consolidated his place in the Indian team with a fighting 68 not out. The fluency of his stroke playing and his temperament was particularly impressive and former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar took to social media to say India have a fantastic middle-order batter in ODIs on their hands.

I think India have found a very good 50 overs middle order batter option, to bat in the middle stages, with 5 fielders inside the circle, it’s Sarfraz Khan,” Manjrekar wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
