- Team plan against Zimbabwe – “We need to be as clinical as possible. No team is a brush over in this tournament. It’s a must-win contest and we know that. Zimbabwe have played wonderful cricket we can’t go there and expect them to crumble,” Ashwin said.
- The team not stepping up – “We had quite tricky games. The matches against Pakistan and Bangladesh went down the wire. Unfair to say the team has not stepped up,” R Ashwin.
- On run out at non-striker’s end – “Honestly, I wouldn’t like to get out like that (run out at non-striker’s end). Just because I don’t like, it’s not like I can’t get out like that. Nobody likes getting out, I don’t like being bowled, lbw, caught or anyway.”
- “There is a lot of argument around it like with anything else in this world, when something happens new, you gonna have people with contradicting thoughts”
- “It’s good to know that some players are coming in media & saying they won’t do run-out at non-striker end so as a cricketer, I will use it as my advantage (big smile)”.
- Virat Kohli Birthday: “We just cut a cake just before we came for practice. Rishabh had most of it (cake).”
- On Australia’s cold weather: “I generally like cold weather, but it’s very different in Australia this time. It’s been a unique experience coming to Australia, a unique World Cup.”

Team India won’t be taking Zimbabwe lightly. Although India have a foot in the semifinals, a loss at the hands of giant slayers Zimbabwe could make things difficult. Zimbabwe have already defeated Pakistan. And at the biggest crowd-puller MCG, it could be the case again.
To back Ashwin’s claims, India put in 5 hours of training on Saturday ahead of their must-win clash against Zimbabwe. Although India have adopted an optional practice approach to avoid injuries, the practice sessions have been no-nonsense kind.
