WestIndies beat India 2nd T20 Highlights: Chasing a modest target of 139, Brandon King set the stage with a 46-run opening stand with Kyle Mayers. While Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin removed Mayers and Pooran, King continued to plunder Indian bowling attack.
IND vs WI 2nd T20 Highlights:
- 1: This is India’s first loss in T20Is against West Indies at their home since 2017.
- 5: West Indies ended a five-match losing streak in T20Is against India.
- 12: This is India’s first loss after maintaining a 12-match winning streak against West Indies across all formats.

With Ravindra Jadeja and Arshdeep Singh removing Shimron Hetmyer in quick succession, India made an excellent comeback. Arshdeep Singh was the star in the death overs with 1/10 in the two overs. Arshdeep set up the match with 10 needed off last over. But there, Rohit Sharma made an interesting decision, handing Avesh Khan the ball instead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
It proved to be costly as Avesh conceded a no-ball in the first delivery and the free hit went for a 6. Devon Thomas completed the formalities with a boundary to win the match by 5 wickets. Rohit Sharma backed his decision to give the final over to Avesh Khan.
“It is all about giving opportunities to these guys. We know what Bhuvi does for us. He has been doing it for years. Unless you give chances to guys like Avesh and Arshdeep you’ll never know. But it is just one game. They have the skills and the talent and it is all about backing them. I am really proud of the bowlers and the team. I thought the guys executed the plans and really happy with the way the guys bowled,” Rohit Sharma said after the match.
Earlier, Nicholas Pooran won the toss and once again opted to bowl first. But India’s innings had nothing to write home about as Obed McCoy struck in his first delivery, removing Rohit Sharma. Soon, he returned to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav. While Hardik Pandya tried for a while, he too was dismissed. Hardik was the top-scorer for India with 31.
Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja were the two others to cross the 20-run mark as India’s batting collapsed msiearbly. In the end, with Dinesh Karthik failing play his finisher’s role, India were bowled out for 138. Obed McCoy returned with 6/17.

However, Rohit Sharma refused to push the panic button, saying it was a rare failure and Team India will come back stronger. But he emphasised on working on the batting failure.
“Firstly, there weren’t enough runs on the board. We didn’t bat well. The pitch was playing nicely but we didn’t apply ourselves. But this can happen. When you are doing something as a batting group, you might not always succeed. But we will learn from this. We have to look at some things in our batting. But I will say it again and again, this is the approach we want with the bat. We won’t panic. We won’t change anything after one loss,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation.
