“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson as a replacement for KL Rahul in the T20I squad for the ongoing West Indies series. KL Rahul was earlier named in the squad and his participation in the T20I series was subject to fitness. The batter tested positive for COVID-19 last week and has been advised rest by the BCCI medical team,” BCCI said in a statement.

Sanju Samson was part of the squad in the recently concluded ODI series that the team won 3-0. He also got his maiden half-century in ODIs when he slammed 54 in the 2nd ODI. However, he did not get an opportunity to bat longer in the 3rd ODI due to rain.
The Rajasthan Royals captain was not originally in the T20 squad for West Indies series. Instead, he was only in the ODI squad. But if he gets an opportunity in the T20s, it will keep him in contention for a place in the T20 World Cup squad.

- Sanju Samson scored 77 runs against Ireland in the second T2oI and could be a valuable weapon to have in the side.
- A better performance on the West Indies ODI tour means he remains in contention for a sport in the T20 series.
- As Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma are looking to tinker with combinations, Sanju could find a place in the Playing XI.
- Samson’s leadership qualities also have another major boost for him to be part of the Indian set-up.
