The main purpose of a bowling change is to get a quick dismissal and put pressure on the opposition. And, that is exactly what Shikhar Dhawan achieved. With the Caribbean openers comfortably settled and having crossed the 50-run mark, Dhawan introduced some spin bowling. On came Deepak Hooda as he scalped Kyle Mayers on his very first delivery.
The Indian off-break bowler pitched a tossed-up delivery to the left-handed batter. Mayers who went half-forward was thinking of playing a safe shot by blocking the ball. Instead, he gently pushed the ball. However, the ball moved forwards and landed safely in the secure hands of Deepak Hooda.

This was an important wicket from India’s point of view. The Men in Blue were in desperate need of a wicket and with the Caribbean openers settling in, could have proved to be exceptionally dangerous for the visitors. Kyle Mayers was looking devastating with his quick-firing run-innings. This was Deepak Hooda’s 2nd ODI wicket. Surprisingly his maiden wicket too came against West Indies at home earlier this year.
Mayers ended his innings on 39 from just 23 deliveries. The destructive opener went on to hit 6 fours and 1 huge sixer in his fiery knock. As the two sides engage in this highly entertaining battle, India currently holds an advantage over its opponents. India pulled off a thrilling win in the first ODI and will be eyeing a victory on this second ODI to take an unassailable lead in the 3-match series.
The Men in Blue are in tremendous form in the limited overs format of the game. India won back-to-back T20I and ODI series in England and is eyeing a whitewash in the Caribbeans.
