IND vs WI: Lucknow Super Giants pacer Avesh Khan is hopeful of a return to the Indian team soon. With India set to tour West Indies and Ireland in the coming months, the MP pacer is keen to resurrect his international career. Avesh featured for India in the build-up to the T20 World Cup last year but was eventually dropped.

India are set for a full tour of the West Indies followed by a T20I series against Ireland. Avesh was part of the last squad that travelled to West Indies, but has since lost his place in the side. He also had a dismal IPL 2023 season but is still hopeful for a recall.

“I’m hoping to be there. Selection is not in my hand as a player, one goes through ups and down. I want to make a comeback and just hoping to do that,” Khan told the Indian Express.

The LSG pacer was asked to play domestic cricket after being ignored for the T20 World Cup spot. He responded with 38 wickets in 8 Ranji games. In the IPL, he picked up 8 wickets in 9 games, at a high economy of 9.76. Avesh however pointed out that he bowls the difficult overs in the death and with teams scoring 200 for fun, he was happy to keep it below 10.

“Even though the season didn’t go well as per my standard, I maintained my economy rate which is less than 10. I bowl crucial overs 4 or 5th over and later in death,” he added.

Avesh has also worked on his action and consistency as he pushes for an India recall. In his short international career, Khan has 3 wickets in 5 ODIs and 13 wickets in 15 T20Is. After being dropped, India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey demonstrated how to use the non-bowling arm to the MP pacer.

A comeback for the Indian pacer is not a far-fetched thought. India is likely to rest Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami for some part of the West Indies tour. Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah are still recuperating from their injuries. With Arshdeep Singh, Shardul Thakur and Umran Malik as options, Avesh could very well be pushed back into the fold.
