If he continues his excellent show against Australia and New Zealand in the next two official warm-up matches, he will very well replace Yuzvendra Chahal in the Playing XI against Pakistan on October 23.

During his final over, the 36-year-old only gave away two runs, while picking the wickets of Turner, Sam Fanning and Jason Behrendorff. Taking into account Yuzvendra Chahal’s topsy-turvy form, Ashwin’s performance comes as a massive boost to the Rohit Sharma-led side. Besides, if India are to do well in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, then their spinners will have to regularly pick wickets in the middle overs.

Hence, A likely scenario could be only including one of Ashwin or Chahal in the final XI. This could mean that Chahal would miss out on a spot and be replaced by Ashwin. As far as the second practice match is concerned, India had won the toss and decided to field first.
