Sri Lanka have played four T20 series in India and their best result was back in 2009-10 when they drew the two-match series. Since then, India have won all the home series. However, for Rohit Sharma, the target is to test the bench strength.

India will be missing key players such as Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Washington Sundar, R Ashwin for either workload management or injuries. It will be a chance to give youngsters such as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, Venkatesh Iyer, Ishan Kishan more chances to settle into the team.
As per India’s schedule, they will only play two more T20 series before the T20 World Cup and the tow home series against Sri Lanka and South Africa will be the only opportunities to get the combinations right.

“I don’t think there’s a set formula to it. But we’re pretty clear about the balance and the combination (for the T20 World Cup)…We are just structuring a little bit of the team around it and also balancing individual workloads as well. We have got a pretty fair idea of the kind of skills we’re looking for in Australia, with the kind of guys who are in running. Not everything is set in stone but we want to give everyone a fair chance to stake their claim for those spots,” Rahul Dravid said after the West Indies series.
