Suryakumar Yadav is the World No.1 batter in the T20 rankings and he was duly rewarded with a vice-captaincy spot in the side. SKY could very well be a long-term option with the futures of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant uncertain. The 32-year-old topped the run-scoring charts for the year. He amassed more than 1400 runs in 2022, with two centuries.
“I was not aware of my vice-captaincy. My dad told me that I had been selected as vice-captain. He’s been very busy on social media,” Suryakumar Yadav told RevSportz. The swashbuckling batsman is in Mumbai, featuring for his state side in the Ranji Trophy. He scored 90 in the first game, followed by 95 on Tuesday.
It was not long ago that Suryakumar Yadav was staring at crossroads having not made his India debut despite years of consistent performances. Now, he forms part of the leadership group tasked with India’s T20 reboot. He joins former MI teammate Hardik Pandya who will lead the side.
“Still feels like a dream. It is just a reward for my long hard work. I had sown the seeds that’s why the fruits are there to be seen. Hopefully, this patch will go long. We (Me and Hardik) have shared a good bond for a long time now and have batted together as well. So we share a good camaraderie,” SKY concluded.
