IND vs SL Series: Shikhar Dhawan form – Shikhar Dhawan is putting in hard yards in training sessions ahead of the Sri Lanka ODI series. The southpaw’s ODI career is in jeopardy as he has failed to score ODI hundred in the last 28 innings. The old gun is making fitness a top priority, as he aims to get back to run-scoring ways. Worst, the opening batter also registered three single-digit scores in the last ODI series against Bangladesh. With Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan breathing are waiting in the pecking order, the Sri Lanka series could make or break for Dhawan. Follow IND vs SL Series Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

IND vs SL: Dhawan aiming to roar against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma doubtful for Sri Lanka ODI series – With the ODI series against Sri Lanka set to begin on January 10, Dhawan is leaving no stone untoward to work on his flaws. One of the major drawbacks of Dhawan has been not hitting the straps in the power play. The southpaw’s slow strike rate of 75 is not in line with India’s aggressive batting in the white-ball formats. Gill and Kishan are scoring runs at 95 plus strike rate. BCCI are set to take a call on ODI career.

Apart from Dhawan, the BCCI will also take a final call on Rohit Sharma’s availability. The skipper is currently out due to a thumb injury, and the board feels Rohit requires time to heal.

IND vs SL: Why is Dhawan’s spot in the 2023 WC under the scanner?

  • Dhawan has failed to play aggressively in the power play. With England & Australia playing fearlessly at the top, India too is aiming for the same.
  • Rohit Sharma is a fixed opener because he is the captain of the ODI side, as well due to his colossal record in the ODI format.
  • Kishan has also grabbed his chance well and is scoring runs at a strike rate of 95.
  • Rohit Sharma is also striking at 88, and that is exactly what the team wants. With Shubman Gill scoring over 600 runs in 15 ODIs at a strike rate of 99, the team may look at him in World Cup 2023.
  • All is though not lost for Dhawan, as he has got 17 ODIs to prove his worth.
  • But with a new selection committee panel coming, the southpaw’s ODI spot may come under the scanner owing to his dismal form.

Shikhar Dhawan has been an excellent servant of Indian cricket, but like others, he too has to make way for youngsters. After Kishan’s double ton it is impossible to ignore the youngster. This means Dhawan’s dream of playing in the 2023 World Cup hangs in the balance.
