IND vs SL: Senior Indian player wants Ajit Agarkar to replace Paras Mhambrey – A senior Indian player wants the team management to rope in former India pacer Ajit Agarkar as the new bowling coach in place of the incumbent Paras Mhambrey as per reports. Mhambrey was appointed as part of Rahul Dravid’s set-up with took charge in November, having teamed up with him during his days with the India developmental squads and the NCA.

As per a Times of India report, a senior Indian player is very keen on having Ajit Agarkar as part of Rahul Dravid’s backroom staff. The report states that the senior player is a key part of the decision-making process and wants Agarkar to assume to role at least until the 2023 ODI World Cup. Currently, ex-India pacer Paras Mhambrey is in charge, having joined alongside Rahul Dravid, replacing Bharat Arun.

“The senior player, who plays a vital role in decision-making in Indian cricket now, wants an experienced hand like Agarkar guiding the bowlers till the 2023 ODI World Cup. Mhambrey is a good bowling coach and can look after budding bowlers at India A, India Under-19 and at pacers the National Cricket Academy,” revealed a reliable source to the Times of India.

Ajit Agarkar played 28 Tests, 191 ODIs and four T20Is for India from 1998 to 2007. The Mumbaikar picked up 58 wickets at an average of 47.32 in Tests, 288 wickets at an average of 27.85 in ODIs, and three wickets at an average of 28.33 in T20Is and also featured in the IPL before switching to media for a commentary role. The 44-year-old came close to being the chief selector last year before being pipped by Chetan Sharma for the post, has worked as a commentator ever since.

India have one of the most dynamic and versatile pace attacks in the world, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami leading the pack which has delivered results in all formats of the game and in all conditions. With the 2023 World Cup being played at home, India will hope that their bowling attack can deliver the goods and bring the title home for the third time. While India would be unlikely to make a change, Agarkar could very well slot into the role, having played alongside Rohit Sharma in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai.
