With the ODI series coming up, the right-handed batter decided to hit the nets straightaway on the second day of the New Year 2023. It wasn’t just a regular practice, as Iyer decided to do things a little differently. The Indian middle-order batter was mic’d up batting in the nets, to let the fans know what’s running in his head, when he takes the strike. At the beginning of the video, Shreyas Iyer requested for throwdowns. A few balls later, he was seen visualizing what the bowler could bowl at him. He was quick to acknowledge the bowler’s effort, where he was undone by an over-pitched delivery, but on the very next ball, he was back to his best with a short-arm jab over cover.
He later commented on his own shots, like the pull and the straight lofted drive for a six, which he feels would have been a six at Kolkata. Toward the end of the clip, Shreyas caresses one through the cover region and declares the shot a boundary. Fans loved Iyer’s instant commentary, and the post has gone viral already.
With the New Year 2023 comes new challenges for Team India, the latest one being taking on Sri Lanka at home. It looks like Shreyas Iyer is ready to smash the Lankan lions. His preparations look complete, and now it’s time to let instinct take over when the matches begin.
2022 was an excellent year for Shreyas Iyer in ODIs in which he scored 724 runs from 17 matches. He averaged 55.69 and smashed one ton and six half-centuries. Indian fans would be hoping for an excellent 2023 from Iyer’s bat.
