Chasing a target of 184, Indian were off to a shaky start with Rohit Sharma getting dismissed in the first over. Ishan Kishan too got out within the powerplay as India were 44-2. Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson then steadied the innings sharing an 84-run stand.
In the 13th over bowled by Lahiru Kumara, Sanju Samson was on song as he smashed 22 runs off four deliveries by hitting three sixes and a four. He tried to continue his onslaught in the last delivery of the over by throwing his bat at a widish delivery and looked to hit it over short third man. However Binura Fernando, who is 6 feet tall jumped perfectly to his right and took the catch with his right hand, completing a stunning catch.
It is an important innings for Sanju Samson as he is making a return to the side. He got an opportunity in the playing XI with the absence of players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. He didn’t get an opportunity to bat in the last game. However, coming in at number four in this crucial game, he has made good use of the opportunity.
