In a light-hearted moment, South African cricketer Tony de Zorzi couldn’t resist poking fun at his teammate Nandre Burger. The latter, on Tuesday secured a bumper Indian Premier League (IPL) deal with the Rajasthan Royals during the auction in Dubai.

Nandre Burger, a talented fast bowler, was bought by the Royals at his base price of INR 50 lakhs in a deal that thrilled the left-arm pacer. However, his roommate Tony de Zorzi didn’t miss the opportunity to jest about the windfall.

“He needs to use that money on the team because we helped him get there. I am also his room-mate on tour, so I am expecting something,” Tony de Zorzi playfully commented.

Nandre Burger’s impressive performance against India played a crucial role in attracting attention during the IPL auction.

In the match at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, he delivered a stellar performance, finishing with figures of 10-0-30-3. His early wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma, followed by the dismissal of KL Rahul, contributed significantly to South Africa’s eight-wicket victory.

Tony De Zorzi, on the other hand, showcased his batting prowess by scoring 119 runs off 122 balls, featuring nine fours and six sixes. His outstanding contribution earned him the Player of the Match award, guiding South Africa to a series-leveling win.

With this victory, the Proteas managed to bounce back after the setback in the first ODI at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The series now stands level, setting the stage for an exciting decider in the third match.
