The wicketkeeping batter spent over 1000 days (1066 days to be exact) away from the Men in Blue, after playing for the Indian side in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand. His IPL 2021 stint wasn’t great after he failed disastrously with the Kolkata Knight Riders and gave away his captaincy.

However, IPL 2022 was the redemption for Karthik. KKR didn’t retain him and Karthik this time was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Donning a new persona, ‘Dinesh Karthik 2.0’, the experienced middle-order batter took up the role of a finisher.

Dinesh Karthik had a dream season in his new team, i.e RCB. In 14 matches, Karthik went on to score 287 runs with an astonishing average of 57.4 and having 9 not-outs. The finisher role of Karthik is well described by his tremendous strike rate of 191.33 and also his tally of boundaries. Karthik has hit 22 fours and 21 sixes, this season.
Up ahead in today’s game against the Proteas, Karthik will be eager to replicate his IPL 2022 form and go on to win the game for the Men in Blue. Down the middle order, Karthik will once again take up the role of a finisher and this time accompanying him will be a rejuvenated Hardik Pandya.
