IND vs SA 1st T20: Thiruvananthapuram T20: India vs SouthAfrica 1st T20 in Thiruvananthapuram will go ahead as scheduled. Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) disconnected the power of Green Field Stadium after Kerala Sports Facility Limited (KSFL) failed to pay around Rs 2.5 Crore power bills. However, the KCA has promised to pay the entire bill as soon as they can after the match on September 28. For now, to have a backup plan, the KCA has arranged additional generators. Follow IND vs SA LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

The KCA has already transferred Rs 50,000 as a token payment to KSEB. The association has given the KSEB a written agreement to pay the amount. It should be noted that Greenfield Stadium is owned by KSFL and the KCA has taken it on lease to conduct cricket matches.

“The first T20 will go on as scheduled. We are in touch with KCA on the problems. It is a minor issue. We understand that they are in the process of paying the due bill. KCA will also get the hosting fees and the grant and it should not be a problem,” a BCCI source close to the development told InsideSport.

The power is already back at the stadium and the maintenance work is underway for the 1st T20. In fact, generators were being used in the maintenance work for the last few days. The authorities were quite confident for the same to be used for the first T20 match if the power was not back at the stadium before the match. Their confidence can be gauged from the fact that the sale of tickets has already started for the first game.

Green Field Stadium Record:

  • India vs New Zealand: Nov 2017 – India won by 6 runs
  • India vs West Indies: Dec 2019 – West Indies won by 8 wickets

Later KCA confirmed to Cricbuzz that additional generators will be used for the match. Backup generators are already with KCA to continue with last-minute retouching.

“Power or not, the match will be held with the help of generators anyway. That is the way for any international game, because a game cannot depend on the uninterrupted power supply from the state boards across states. We need power before the game and for maintenance and for that we have initiated backup measures. The generators will be pressed into service. We want the match to happen and it will happen,” KCA spokesperson Krishna Prasad told Cricbuzz.

It must be noted that KCA does not get a lot of international matches. With no IPL team from Kerala, the situation also becomes difficult to maintain funds. The last international match at the Greenfield Stadium was back in 2019 between India vs West Indies. Since then due to Covid and other venues getting precedence, KCA did not get to host a match.
