Chasing a target of 161, India were off the worst possible start. In 2.5 overs, India were 21/3 with Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer all gone. In all three cases, it was poor shot selections that cost them.
As has been the case, India pinned their hopes on Suryakumar Yadav. With Hardik Pandya by his side, the two took charge. The duo added 39 runs off 22 balls before SKY fell to Ish Sodhi. But it was captain Hardik Pandya who waged a battle. Before rain stopped the match for one final time, Hardik Pandya was unbeaten on 30 off 18. Hood remained unbeaten on 9 off 9.

“We would have liked to win this game, but that is how it is. We don’t mind getting a trophy and going back with a win,” India captain Hardik Pandya said.
NewZealand were without regular skipper Kane Williamson who missed the match with a medical appointment. Tim Southee led the side.
Opting to bat, NewZealand rode on half-centuries from Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips to post 160. But the hosts lost their last 8 wickets for just 30 runs. Arshdeep Singh removed Finn Allen in the second over to deal an early blow. He took a catch to send back Mark Chapman. Phillips smashed 54 and Conway made 59.

Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the Indian bowlers claiming 4-17. His fellow seamer Arshdeep Singh returned with 4-37. Southee, who had claimed a hat-trick in the previous match, was dead set on another. He dismissed Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer with successive deliveries as India slumped to 60/4 in the seventh over.
Pandya, however, looked in great form and smashed 30 not out off 18 balls. However, rain intervened. At rain break, India were 75/4 in 9 overs, tied on DLS with NZ. No further play was possible.
