India vs England 2nd Test – Will Virat Kohli hit 100 at Lords?

Kohli’s special training for the Lord’s test:

  • Kohli during the practice was seen playing with the TENNIS BALLS from a shorter distance of the crease.
  • All the balls were made wet & was thrown at Kohli by the batting coach from different angles
  • Indian captain practiced this drill for 30 Mins.
  • The hard turf at Lord’s has a layer of green cover which conveys that the surface would inadvertently produce some extra bounce and assist the pace bowlers. The lightweight tennis balls are known to produce some extra bounce, and while practising with the same, Kohli would be better prepared for the conditions during the match at Lord’s.

Cricket experts on Kohli’s century drought

Mohammad Kaif

“Expectations are high. Getting hundreds in a Test is a task, a tough task. Kohli is among those (batters) who are doing it easily. The benchmark (he has set for himself) is very high. But I have got no doubts, he will come back strongly. Not that he’s not been scoring runs. He’s getting set and it’s just a matter time (before the wait ends),” Mohammad Kaif told News18.

Sanjay Bangar

“He has already scored close to 7,500 Test runs, and this is a format, where he just simply gives it his all. It’s not that he doesn’t value T20 or ODI cricket; he plays with equal intensity, but the job satisfaction that he derives — because this is the toughest format. And in modern times, because there are no dead rubbers, so every Test match is valued, and every team is playing for a result. This means that whatever is on offer — from a batting perspective — is always challenging for the batsman. So, to excel in each & every Test match, and obviously, to get over the drought of the three-figure — which may have been playing on his mind — I think this is something that he would look ahead to. The way he has batted in the first innings was a clear indication of the kind of touch and the kind of rhythm that he was in. So, I think it augurs well for the Indian team,” Sanjay Bangar said on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

India vs England 2nd Test – Will Virat Kohli hit 100 at Lords? Indian skipper lean phase with the willow has been a worrisome problem as it’s been 629 days since Virat Kohli hit his last international century.

In fact, in 2021, Kohli holds an average of just 25.44 in the 9 outings he has done for India. His last 15 innings numbers are all the more disappointing which include 3 ducks and 3 single-digit scores.

With Kohli falling prey to Anderson’s delivery in the opening Test, it was evident that Kohli’s age-old weakness- good length deliveries outside the off-stump continue to haunt him. The Indian batsman often nudges such deliveries which should ideally be left especially in the Tests.

‘Shoulder arms’ remains as the ideal response to such trapping outside the off-stump deliveries which often tempt the batsmen to play shots till the last moment. A similar perseverance based move would help Kohli rustle swords with his weakness in the upcoming Lord’s challenge.
