IND vs ENG: Under-pressure Rohit Sharma ‘could be going in with fresher mind in Rajkot’

IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma has struggled to perform with the bat in the last few Test matches.

Test batting has been a bit of a struggle for India skipper Rohit Sharma, in the last few matches. It became more apparent during the IND vs ENG Test series, where in two matches. he averages only 22.50, and has a highest score of 39. While the form of Shreyas Iyer, and KS Bharat has been spoken about quite a bit, Rohit’s slump has largely gone unnoticed.

For now, he is being unable to dominate the bowlers, that is resulting in his downfall. In an interaction with The Telegraph, former India batsman WV Raman said, “For some, it may work if they just grind, grind and grind. But that may not work for Rohit as he likes to dominate bowlers.

“If he focuses on the approach he has played with all along, he should be fine.”

Rohit Sharma was Under Pressure

On the other hand, former India wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta listed out the reason for his defensive approach with the bat. “Mentally, Rohit maybe wasn’t in the best place as only (Jasprit) Bumrah and he were the two most experienced players in the first two games.

“Probably that worry imposed kind of a restraint on him, adding to the pressure, more so as this is a really good England side,” he said. “In Rajkot, he could be going in with a fresher mind following the short break. And if he can somehow get in a few quick boundaries, it can help to set the tone as he’ll feel much easier then.”
