IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma scores 12th Test ton, surpasses Joe Root in list of most hundreds

IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma brought up his second hundred in the series, putting India in a dominant position in the Dharamshala Test.

On Friday, India skipper Rohit Sharma continued his sublime form as he scored his 12th Test ton, in the fifth match against England at Dharamshala. He got to the milestone in 154 balls, his second in the ongoing series, after scoring 131 in Rajkot. Meanwhile, en route his ton, Rohit broke a few records, bringing him in elite company.

For starters, he surpassed Joe Root, in the list for most overall tons in international cricket – 48. While Root, who on the other hand, has 47 tons to his name, has been poor in this series. Rohit, also managed to equal coach Rahul Dravid’s record of overall tons — 48 as well. This also means, he is third Indian on the list after Sachin Tendulkar (100), and Virat Kohli (80).

In the current IND vs ENG series, Rohit is closing on 400 runs, and is fourth in the list of most runs for now. He is behind Zak Crawley (407), Shubman Gill (433), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (712). Interestingly, this is Rohit’s 10th ton in India, in his 29th Test, and averages over 63 in home Tests.

If that is not enough, this is his fourth Test ton versus the English in 14 outings. He has 1146 runs for now against the opposition, at an average of almost 50, including four fifties as well. Lastly, since 2019, Rohit has nine tons as an opener, the highest for any player at the top of the order.
