In the three ODI matches that Dhawan played against England, he managed to score just 41 runs with an average of 20.50. What is even more surprising is Dhawan’s poor strike rate of 49.39. Dhawan’s highest score came in the first ODI match at the Oval where the Men in Blue comprehensively defeated England by 10 wickets. Dhawan played a fine knock of 31 not out in that game.
In the 2nd ODI at Lord’s Dhawan played an exceptional slow knock of 9 from 26 and in the 3rd ODI, he was dismissed cheaply at 1 from 3. Dhawan departed early falling a victim to Reece Topley yet again. Dhawan in an attempt to open the face of the bat and go over the fielder slotted the ball straight into the hands of Jason Roy positioned at a backward point.

- Dhawan has failed to seal his place in the Indian Squad for the upcoming 2023 World Cup.

With Dhawan continuing his struggle to score runs, an added pressure on the veteran opener will be the return of KL Rahul. Rahul who underwent successful surgery on sports hernia is recovering well and is inching closer to his Indian team return. Though the exact date of Rahul’s return is unknown, the Indian vice-captain is expected to be back soon.
Another major concern for Dhawan will be securing his spot in the Indian Playing XI of the Indian team for the upcoming World Cup. The ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 is just 15 months away. Dhawan will have to improve massively to guarantee his place in the squad. Dhawan will, however, get this opportunity in West Indies. India will be playing a series in the Caribbeans headed by Shikhar Dhawan.
