IND vs ENG: Ex-India opener cautions against comparing Yashasvi Jaiswal to greats already

IND vs ENG: In the second Test in Vizag, Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored 209 in the first innings.

While India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s double ton in the second IND vs ENG Test played a significant role in the hosts’ registering a win, to compare the youngster with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, and Don Bradman is uncalled for. Of course, Jaiswal deserved all the praise, but then such comparisons could only bring pressure on him.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag, who played his share of big innings in Test cricket, wasn’t very pleased with these comparisons, but clarified, Jaiswal is a good batsman. “He is a very good batsman but I think comparisons are too early,” Sehwag told PTI.

In fact, Sehwag echoed Gautam Gambhir’s sentiments. The latter had recently told PTI the same. During the second Test, Gambhir said, “I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement, but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play.

“We have seen in the past that in India we have a habit, especially the media, to over-hype their achievements, and give them tags and make them look like heroes.”

“The pressure of expectation gets the better of them, and the players are not able to play their natural game. Let him grow, and, enjoy his cricket,” added Gambhir.
