IND vs ENG call up pipe dream as Karun Nair’s IPL 2025 slide continues

IND vs ENG call up pipe dream as Karun Nair’s IPL 2025 slide continues

Karun Nair has managed 65 in 5 innings since his 89 against Mumbai Indians earlier in IPL 2025.

Karun Nair’s hopes of making the squad for the IND vs ENG continue to fade away with yet another poor show with the bat in IPL 2025. Nair started off with a bang, but his form has since tapered off, including a low score in the DC vs KKR clash on Tuesday. The 33-year-old is hoping to make a comeback to the Indian squad after a fine domestic season, but his IPL form is now hurting his chances.

Karun Nair’s last 5 IPL innings

  • 15 (13) vs KKR
  • 4 (4) vs RCB
  • 15 (9) vs LSG
  • 31 (18) vs GT
  • 0 (3) vs RR

Karun Nair’s struggles hamper India chances

The 33-year-old was unstoppable in the domestic cricket season, scoring runs at a canter across all tournaments. Such was his form, a comeback to the Indian team was the talk in Indian cricket circles. He backed those calls with a stunning 89 off 40 against Mumbai Indians early in the season.

However, since that exceptional knock, Karun has struggled to convert his starts. In his next 5 innings, the Vidarbha ace has gone past 20 only once, failing to provide a good platform for DC. With just 4 games left, the 33-year-old is running out of time to fix his form. With the IND vs ENG tour right after IPL 2025, Nair will have to get his runs flowing to have a chance to make the team.

To add to Karun’s worries, his competitors seem to be peaking at the right time. Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Devdutt Padikkal, Ajinkya Rahane, and KL Rahul have all found form in IPL 2025. With limited spots available for grabs, Nair will have to take a page from his fellow competitors to make one final push for an Indian team comeback.
