India cricket team batter Shubman Gill is on the verge of creating history in IND vs ENG 2nd ODI. The vice-captain top-scored for the Mein in Blue with a 87-run knock in the 1st ODI in Nagpur. Now, he needs just 85 runs more to become the first batter in the world to score 2500 runs in less than 50 matches. India will take on England in the 2nd ODI at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack on Sunday.
Gill on cusp of creating history
Currently, Hashim Amla holds the record for the fastest to reach 2500 runs in ODIs. The former South African batter took 53 innings to reach the milestone. Talking about Gill, he has 2415 runs so far from 48 matches. It will be interesting to see what position Gill bats at in today’s match. Previously he batted at number 3, filling in the shoes of Virat Kohli who missed the 1st ODI due to a swelling in his right knee.

Gill’s 87-run mature knock in Nagpur was hailed by many former cricketers. Some even went on to claim that he had taken a leaf out of Kohli’s book when it comes to a run-chase. His patient knock was studded with 14 boundaries.
India will be looking to keep their winning momentum going in Cuttack and seal the series. The 3-match ODI series is important as it is the preparation stage for the ICC Champions Trophy, which commences on February 19. Gill will have a crucial role to play in the batting line-up and will be expected to pile up more runs in Cuttack.
