Following a humbling defeat to Australia in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test, India organised a two-hour practice session. Although it was optional, almost all the Indian players, including Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Virat Kohli, participated on December 10. Interestingly, it was supposed to be the fifth day of the 2nd IND vs AUS clash. But as we all know, it took only seven sessions for the Pat Cummins’ side to wreak havoc over India and hand them a 10-wicket loss.
Australia in Brisbane, why not India?
Following the pink Adelaide Oval Test, the caravan now moves to the Gabba, Brisbane, where we will see the third Test take place, starting from December 14. However, hosts Australia have already landed in Brisbane. Right after their triumph in Adelaide, the mighty Aussies boarded for the Gabba. India, meanwhile, didn’t. Instead, they had a practice session, where batters had an extended stay. But why so? Why couldn’t India prepone their departure to Brisbane in order to acclimate early?
Well, it was indeed a great decision by the Indian management. While Australia did reach the next venue early, India held a much-needed net session. Moreover, Brisbane received heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Hence, had India gotten there early, they would’ve been forced to stay in hotel rooms. How can someone acclimatize inside a room anyway?
