Having not featured in any of the games, Ashton Agar and Lance Morris could head home midway through India vs Australia Test series. Agar fell down the pecking order with both Todd Murphy and Matthew Kunheman making their debuts instead. Now despite the suggestions that Murphy has side strain, Agar could return home to play some Sheffield Cricket with Western Australia.

Lance Morris is set to suffer the same fate with Australia unlikely to add another quick in their attack. Josh Hazlewood is ruled out but there is no window of opportunity for the speedster. The return of Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc further puts him away.

Sending surplus players home or releasing them for domestic games isn’t uncommon. India released Jaydev Unadkat ahead of the 2nd Test to allow his participation in the Ranji Trophy final. He has now returned and been added to the squad for the final two tests. In the case of Agar and Morris, there is unlikely to be a return.

Head coach Andrew McDonald acknowledged the possibility of letting players leave for domestic cricket. A decision on the same is set to be announced in the coming days.

“We’re working through that. It won’t be form as such but there’s cricket going on back home. We’ve got to be clear on what we want to achieve in the next two Test matches in terms of the structure of the team. Once we get our heads around that, there’s an opportunity for players to be playing cricket back home and we value that,” McDonald said.

Australia are trailing 2-0 having lost both Tests in three days and have conceded the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The 3rd test in Indore kicks off on March 1.
