Put into bat, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul starred with the bat against as both slammed fifties and added 140 runs for the first wicket. Sharma and Rahul played innings of 74 and 66, respectively before Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya continued the momentum and added 50 runs partnership propelling the team’s total to over 200. Pant slammed 27 off 13 balls while Hardik Pandya scored 35 off just 13 balls at a strike rate of 269.23.

For Afghanistan, Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib scalped one wicket each for Afghanistan.

Chasing 211, Afghanistan were 47/2 after the powerplay as they stared down the barrel of a heavy defeat. Indian bowlers clawed further deep as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Gulbadin Naib were removed before halfway point of their chase. In the end, M Nabi’s side fell 66 runs short of the target.
