Opener Shubman Gill has long been hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket, and the youngster has delivered time and again when it comes to the ODIs. But after the failure in India vs South Africa, the third T20I, his numbers in the shortest format don’t give away a lot. In fact, his returns have been rather poor in T20Is, considering his superior IPL record.

After Shubman got out for eight in the last match, his numbers in T20I read – 13 matches, 312 runs, at an average of 26. This also includes a ton and a fifty. This is in stark contrast with his IPL numbers, where in 91 matches, he has scored 2790 runs, at an average of 37.7, including three tons.

Shubman Gill & T20 World Cup 2024

While the series against South Africa is over, India just has three more T20Is to go before the T20 World Cup 2024. For now, despite his poor run of form, Shubman might make it to the squad, but it remains a worry for India. While there are contenders like Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, at the top, but time is certainly a factor for Shubman and India.
