If Rohit Sharma opts out of England tour, Shubman Gill to lead India, decision likely in May end

India vs England: Currently Rohit Sharma is playing in the IPL for Mumbai Indians, and will take a decision on England tour, towards end of the tournament.

It is getting a bit out of hand now. On one day, there are reports suggesting Rohit Sharma will play in the India vs England series, following the IPL 2025, and the next day, there are some claiming, he would voluntarily skip the series. In short, there is confusion all around. Now, according to RevSportz, the skipper has made no decision till now, and will only think about it by mid-May.

Rohit Sharma Doubtful for England, Shubman Gill Ready

The report goes to on state that Rohit Sharma missing out the series, is highly unlikely though, and in case it does happen, Shubman Gill will lead India in England. Meanwhile, the squad for the same is to be picked in the last week of IPL. “As things stand, Rohit is going,” a source in the know told RevSportz. “But you never know. It will depend on his fitness as well. There’s no hurry. By mid-May, he will decide.”

But there are question marks that still remain on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. Till now, there has been no clarity by the NCA, as to when would he be fit to play again, for MI and for India. The 31-year-old pacer had sustained a back injury during the Sydney Test last year in December, and since then has been out of action.

Questions Over Jasprit Bumrah’s Fitness

Shane Bond, MI’s former bowling coach had even warned, that if Bumrah sustained an injury in the same spot, it could end his career. “You would be looking at five Tests in England; I would not want to be playing him in any more than two in a row,” Bond was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“Maybe, the selectors will have to look at Shubman as the back-up option,” said the source. “He has already been appointed as vice-captain in the ODI team, and he is being viewed as a long-term option in the longer format as well.”
