If Rishabh Pant is to go to CSK, he should be the skipper and not Ruturaj Gaikwad

IPL retention: As per various reports, Rishabh Pant is going into the IPL auction, and CSK is keen on buying him.

As per rumours, Rishabh Pant is not getting retained by DC during IPL retention. While one section believes that the non-retention could be due to the money deal not going through, while the others suggesting, he wasn’t happy with DCs plan of getting back Shreyas Iyer. In any case, more or less, Rishabh Pant will be in the IPL auction.

Rumours have not ended there only. There are also speculations that CSK will be in the running to get Pant at any cost. So, if that is true, then the next big question that arises is, “Will Rishabh Pant be made the CSK captain”, over Ruturaj Gaikwad? Just purely going by the numbers, Pant has been a better captain in the IPL.

Leading in 43 matches, Pant has won 23, and lost 19. On the other hand, Gaikwad, in his only season as the CSK skipper, he has lost 7 and won 7. But that wouldn’t change much for the CSK team, who have a lot of faith in the latter.

But the only differentiator between the two men could be, Pant is a seasoned India player, and has led India too a few times. It would be great for the CSK to have a skipper in the team, who can handle high-pressure situations, just like MS Dhoni. But the same cannot be expected from Gaikwad for now, who is yet to cement his place in the Indian team.

Plus, it seems like, Gaikwad is a bit overawed with MS Dhoni, while that won’t be the case with Pant, who has considerable experience under him. He has led India to many famous victories already, and was also part of India’s T20 World Cup winning campaign.
