Should India beat Afghanistan on Wednesday, they will still be unable to leapfrog Pakistan and retain their spot unless Pakistan lose their net game against Namibia. Considering the run of fixtures both teams have left in the T20 World Cup, it is unlikely that Virat Kohli and Co. wrestle their position back in the rankings before the tournament draws to a close, barring an upset win for either Scotland or Namibia over Pakistan.

India’s poor show in the T20 World Cup has also seen Virat Kohli and KL Rahul slip below in the batsman rankings. Kohli scored a fifty in the game against Pakistan, dropped down to fifth, while KL Rahul is not eighth after twin failures against Pakistan and New Zealand. Among bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is India’s highest-ranked bowler, who slipped to 15th in the table.
