Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has blamed the country’s style of cricket for the humiliation they suffered in Champions Trophy. Despite being the hoss of the tournament, Pakistan was not just knocked out in the group stage but was also forced to concede the hosting of the final to Dubai.
Who is to blame for Pakistan’s CT 2025 snub?
In a video on his YouTube channel, Akmal said that Pakistan did not deserve representation at the Champions Trophy closing ceremony because they did not deserve it. He pointed out that even minnow teams managed to show the mirror to the host nation.
“The ICC showed us the mirror. The tournament’s director (Sumair) was there. He was available, and why wasn’t he in the ceremony? It is because we don’t deserve to be there. We are not playing good cricket. Minow teams have shown us the mirror,” Akmal said.

“No one discussed how Pakistan hosted the tournament. If we play such cricket, we will be treated like this. If you play for yourself, there will be no respect,” he added.
The Pakistan Cricket Board was unhappy with the ICC’s response as to why no PCB official was present at the Champions Trophy final ceremony. While BCCI president Roger Binny, New Zealand Cricket director Roger Twose along with ICC Chairman Jay Shah were present at the closing ceremony, no official from the host nation was on stage, triggering a debate.
As per NDTV, a PCB source claimed that the ICC had made preparations for PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi to be on stage but changed plans when he couldn’t. The report stated that Pakistan had rejected this explanation. Further, the PCB claimed that the ICC had made a number of errors during the tournament regarding Pakistan’s status as the host country.
