ICC Chair Jay Shah is heading to Lausanne for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session on January 30 at the Olympic House. He plans to have discussions about including cricket in the 2032 Olympics. Last month, Shah was in Brisbane to promote cricket’s inclusion in the 2032 Olympics. There, he met with the Brisbane Olympic Organising Committee chief Cindy Hook and Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley. During India’s third Test against Australia, Shah watched the game from the stands and interacted with former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Border in the press box.
Key role in LA 2028 Olympics
As the former BCCI secretary, Shah played a crucial role in getting cricket included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. As ICC Chair, he emphasized the exciting future for the sport, stating, “This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide.”
Upcoming IOC session
The IOC’s statement in October 2024 mentioned the session’s details in Lausanne. The IOC members are scheduled to meet on January 30, 2025, for presentations by candidates for the IOC presidency.
