ICC Chairman Elections: Incumbent Greg Barclay is set to be re-elected as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The development comes after his opponent, Dr Tavengwa Mukuhlani, the chair of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), is expected to withdraw from the race. Incidentally, the BCCI, had backed Barclay’s candidacy for a second consecutive term and it looks like the richest cricket board will get their way. The Indian cricket board had decided to support Barclay after the BCCI AGM, in October, after authorising the new set of office-bearers to decide India’s representative to the ICC.
Greg Barclay has been elected as the new Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council.
Barclay joins from New Zealand Cricket where he has been a director since 2012 and also served as a director of the 2015 ICC @cricketworldcup.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, the Zimbabwean is set to withdraw after some kind of consensus is believed to have been reached among the ICC directors. Going by the development, Barclay will easily retain his position. The election is slated to take place in Melbourne on Saturday.
Barclay will get another two-year term after first being elected in 2020. However, it should be noted that a chairman of the governing council can have a three years term in total. And the New Zealander is expected to continue at his position with no opposition in place.
