Humble Virat Kohli claims he will never be as good as Sachin Tendulkar even after 49 ODI tons

Virat Kohli has responded to Sachin Tendulkar’s warm message of congratulating him for reaching a major milestone. Virat Kohli has claimed it has been a huge honor for him to receive the message from his idol. On his 35th birthday, Virat Kohli matched his idol Sachin Tendulkar with 49 ODI centuries. He even went on to claim that he would never be as good as him.

Tendulkar’s message is quite special. It’s all too much to take in for now. It’s a huge honour to equal my hero’s record. I will never be as good as him. He’s perfection with the bat. It’s an emotional moment. I know the days I come from, I know the days I have watched him on TV. To receive appreciation from him means a lot to me,” said Kohli after the match.

Sachin Tendulkar was overjoyed when Kohli equaled his record milestone after a gritty century against South Africa. He took to social media to say, “Well played Virat. It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!!”

Virat Kohli slams 49th ODI Ton

It is safe to say that Kohli’s 49th ODI ton was coming in the ongoing Cricket World Cup. Before this game, he came close to achieving this rare feat twice. He missed the feat against New Zealand when he was dismissed on 95 and then against Sri Lanka when he had to walk back after managing 88 runs.

But against South Africa, the dynamics were vastly different. Batting on a tricky surface with the pitch slowing down and turning, Kohli ground out a 119-ball century in a gritty inning that consisted of 10 fours.
