The India cricket team selectors will be keeping a close eye on veterans Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami in IPL 2025. While Shami returned to action after a 14-month break, the Mumbai Indians pacer is still recovering from his lower back injury. Bumrah is set to miss the first two weeks of IPL 2025 and will reportedly join the MI camp only in April.
All eyes on Bumrah, Shami in IPL 2025 before ENG tour
As per a Times of India report, the selectors are not keen on planning the entire England tour around Bumrah and Shami. A BCCI source told the publication that Shami is under the constant watch of the selectors. The source added that how Bumrah and Shami will endure the long IPL season will determine their availability for the India vs England Test series which will commence in June.
“How Bumrah and Shami will endure the long IPL will be important. Shami is under constant watch. If the selectors get both of them together for two-three Tests, it will be the ideal situation. The team management will also be cautious of pushing the duo to play all Tests together. Nobody wants either of them breaking down in the middle of a Test, like it happened with Bumrah in Sydney. Too much depended on Bumrah alone in Australia,” the BCCI source said.

Bumrah was India’s most overworked pacer in the previous calendar year. A gruelling Border-Gavaskar series saw the veteran pick up a back injury in the final Test in Sydney. Subsequently, he was ruled out of the Champions Trophy as well after failing to recover in time. Meanwhile, the report also stated that the medical team will not clear Bumrah unless he starts bowling in full tilt for some days without showing any signs of discomfort.
