Rohit Sharma was heavily trolled by the fans due to the horrible form he was in. He was hardly managing to score any runs in red-ball cricket before having an off day in the first India vs England ODI as well. But now Rohit has bludgeoned a half-century in just 30 balls in the second ODI against England. He made it look so easy—a sight that was truly special to behold. It was as if Rohit was never out of form. In actuality, he may be out of runs but never out of elegance.
Rohit Sharma is back & how before ICC Champions Trophy
The 50-over cricket has always seen Rohit Sharma and his delightful best. While Shubman Gill was already looking in his element and taking confidence from his last knock, Rohit came out all guns blazing. Ever since taking captaincy in the format, Rohit has made it a conscious effort of utilising the powerplay gleefully. He is at his best when taking on the bowlers and did so remarkably in the Cuttack game as well.
Not some of but all of Rohit’s strokes came out of a batting paradise. The down-the-ground sixes to Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson were magical, while he even swept Adil Rashid. Making his 108th international fifty, Rohit has truly put a smile on every Indian cricket fan’s face. He was horrendously out of form. Here, we are talking about a player, who was averaging a mere 7.00 in his last 11 innings across format. And this doesn’t include his one-off Ranji Trophy appearance, where he failed as well.
But now, Rohit has looked completely in his former touch and was toing with the English bowlers. This is a massive boost for India just before the ICC Champions Trophy. India’s bowling has already taken a toll, with fitness concerns over Jasprit Bumrah. The selection choices have been questioned as well but if Rohit brings in his ruthlessness and consistency, it won’t just make matters worse for other teams but will help his confidence translate in his captaincy as well.
