“He has other commitments”: Brad Hogg suggests Virat Kohli’s dip in performance owing to off-field matters

In the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Virat Kohli scored just 190 runs in 10 innings

Star India Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli’s form hasn’t been great off late. Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has suggested that Kohli’s dip in recent performances can be an off-the-field issue and not essentially on-field matters. Hogg has hinted that the new measures and mandate issued by the BCCI can be an added factor in the decline in Virat Kohli‘s form.

In the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy, Virat Kohli has been criticized far and wide for his poor performances. He managed only a single unbeaten century at Perth. In 10 innings, the ace batter managed to score just 190 runs as India were humiliated to a 3-1 loss.

More Drama off the Field suggests Hogg

“He (Kohli) has got a family now. He has other commitments off the field that he did not have when he was really dominating all three formats around the globe. So it is not just about the cricket, it is what’s happening off the field as well,” Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

“I think it is more the drama off-field than on-field for Virat. I just think he has just got too much on his plate that has probably caused him to not perform as well at this moment,” the former spinner added.

After India’s disappointing loss, the BCCI decided to enforce some stern measures. The apex cricketing body in the country made it mandatory for Indian stars to take part in domestic cricket. Furthermore, it went on to levy major restrictions on the travel of family members on tours.

“With the new rules that the BCCI has brought in, in regards to families, that’s gonna put even more stress on Virat…because you gotta have that balance. I think players should be able to have their families on tour as much as possible, especially with the amount of cricket and the amount of travel that India has at the present moment,” Hogg concluded.
