Harmanpreet Kaur might have created many records during the course of her career, but playing 200 T20Is signals her longevity and effectiveness as a player.

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has created a little World Record in the IND vs SA Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash, in Manchester on Sunday. She has become the first player — male or female — to play 200 T20Is for their nation. In a career spread across 17 years, Harmanpreet has surpassed one and all, when it comes to playing in the shortest format.

Meanwhile, the record for most appearances in the men’s section is held by Ireland’s Paul Stirling (163), while Rohit Sharma is second in the list at 159 matches. Coming back to the women’s game, after Harman, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates comes in next with 184 encounters, followed by Australia’s Ellyse Perry at 177. It is important to note that Harman had made her T20I debut in the inaugural T20 World Cup in England, way back in 2009.

Ahead of the key IND vs SA clash, India’s bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi lauded the skipper for her longevity, and contribution to the national side. “I think Harman is a top-level athlete,” he said. “She’s a role model for almost all cricketers globally. The way she has conducted herself over the years she’s been a role model throughout. She’s been a performer in any format. She’s playing her 200th T20, that’s a big thing. And we are all as excited to watch her perform.”

Salvi was also quick to point out, the role she plays, when it comes to guiding the youngsters, who have grown and risen under her leadership. “And work ethics-wise, she keeps on working on the basics. She shares a lot of experience with the youngsters. So that also is a dimension where she comes in. At times, there is a lot of information available, but coming from someone who has performed so well at the highest level, those little minor points which she shares with the players, that actually help boost the careers of a lot of youngsters,” he added.

As far as the ongoing tournament is concerned, India is undefeated until now, having secured easy wins over Pakistan and the Netherlands. If they win against South Africa, their road to the semis qualification will ease out considerably. But SA is bit of an Achilles Heel for IND, where they lost the recent five-match series against them — 1-4.
