GT worse than CSK? Shubman Gill & co finish IPL 2025 with unwanted record

Gujarat Titans have finished IPL 2025 with an unwanted record of the team with most dropped catches

Gujarat Titans’ dreams of lifting their second IPL trophy came to a crashing end as MI handed them a 20-run defeat in the Eliminator. From being in a prime position to finish at the top two places to choking towards the end of the tournament, Shubman Gill and co. saw the highest of the highs and lowest of lows. However, GT did finish IPL 2025 with an unwanted record to their name.

GT worst fielding side in IPL 2025?

As per Cricbuzz, GT dropped 28 catches in IPL 2025 – the most by any team in this edition of the tournament. On the 2nd spot are Delhi Capitals, having dropped 24 catches. Surprisingly, CSK who were once dubbed as the worst fielding unit in IPL 2025 after the first half of the season, dropped just 22 catches.

GT had two golden opportunities to get rid of Rohit Sharma early on in MI’s innings in the Eliminator. However, he was given a lifeline on two occasions, thanks to glaring mistakes on the field.

First, Rohit was dropped by Coetzee in the 2nd over of the match. A high catch was put down by the Proteas star, giving Sharma an early reprieve. In the very next over, keeper Kusal Mendis put down a sitter off Siraj’s delivery.

Following these double debacles, Rohit went on to score 81 runs off 50 deliveries.

To make matters worse, Mendis dropped yet another catch in the 12th over, giving Suryakumar Yadav a lifeline this time.

What happened in GT vs MI, Eliminator?

Chasing a massive 229-run target, GT faltered with Shubman Gill falling in the first over. But Sudharsan (80 off 49) kept their hopes alive with a 64-run stand with Kusal Mendis and then an 84-run stand with Washington Sundar. But after he fell, GT lost their way. Jasprit Bumrah bowled an excellent tidy spell of 1/27 to turn things around for MI.
