Senior all-rounder Glenn Maxwell made a grand comeback as he was adjudged player of the match but not for his batting. Playing against India, the Big Show scalped four wickets in his 10 overs quota which included the huge grabs of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Thanks to Maxwell’s off-spin, the visitors managed to derail the Indian chase of 353 runs in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27).

“Yeah, it’s been a lot of hard work. I think the SA tour was a kind of setback. I went back, got an injection. I feel a lot fresh now. I don’t have any travel issues like the other guys. Had gone home, been fresh. Its nice to chip in,” Maxwell said after the match.
I think Mitch Marsh wasn’t there, and hence we didn’t chop and change with our bowling. If it’s our day we will contribute in any ways. We will try to be flexible as much as we can. Everyone is ready to bat anywhere. We will try to play with our individual styles of strengths,” he added.
Maxwell played his last competitive game in July
It must be noted that Maxwell broke his leg and underwent surgery in November after slipping and falling during a friend’s 50th birthday party. Before IND vs AUS 3rd ODI, he played a competitive game for Warwickshire in July. The senior all-rounder was set to play in the T20I series against South Africa but experienced soreness in his previously broken leg.
Maxwell was then sent back to Australia as a precaution as he was not part of the ODI squad against the Proteas. However, Maxi has grabbed the opportunity with both hands this time as he might have earned a direct entry to the Australia playing XI in the upcoming World Cup.
Speaking about his numbers in ODI format, the 34-year-old has amassed 3495 runs at an average of 33.61. His strike rate is also good at 124.69. Not only that, the power-hitter has stroked two centuries and 23 fifties. With the ball, he has scalped 64 wickets in 129 matches. With the amount of experience Maxwell brings in, he is definitely a player to watch out for the upcoming WC from the Aussie camp.
