Gautam Gambhir, Shahid Afridi renew rivalry in US Masters T10 League

The duo has clashed numerous times, be it on the field or in a war of words on social media

Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi’s tiff is nothing new. The duo has clashed numerous times, be it on the field or in a war of words on social media. The US Masters T10 League provided another chance for the arch-rivals to renew their rivalry.

The inaugural edition of the US Masters T10 League is currently in progress with six teams taking part. Several former cricketers of India and Pakistan are playing the tournament. Gautam Gambhir is captaining New York Warriors and Shahid Afridi has been chosen to lead New Jersey Legends. The two teams crossed path on Sunday in Lauderhill, Florida and sparks flew as usual.

Rain delay saw the game being reduced to a five-over affair but the encounter lived up to expectations.

After being invited to bat first, the Legends didn’t get off to a great start losing Richard Levi and Tillakaratne Dilshan within first couple of overs. On came skipper Shahid Afridi and the momentum shifted towards the Legends. Afridi turned back the clock with a superb knock of 37* runs off just 12 balls. His innings was laced with six fours and two sixes.

The veteran cricketer attacked Christopher Barnwell and Abhimanyu Mithun scoring 27 and 15 runs respectively off the only over they bowled in the innings. Thanks to his knock, the New Jersey Legends managed to post 84 runs on the board in five overs.

However, his efforts did not bear fruit as the New York Warriors ended up chasing the score of New Jersey Legends with two balls to spare.

Jesse Ryder (38), Yusuf Pathan (16) and Christopher Barnwell (28*) took their team home in just 4.4 overs smashing a whopping 10 sixes between them.

Gautam Gambhir decided to bat down the order with it being a five-over shootout. His team won the match without needing their captain to go on to the field to bat.

The match also witnessed Jerome Taylor of New York Warriors being taken apart for 30 runs in a single over.
