Catch how the Delhi team lined up when Virat Kohli last played a Ranji Trophy game back in 2012.

The Virat Kohli mania is ready to roar in the Ranji Trophy as the modern-day great will be making his long-awaited comeback in the domestic circuit. Kohli, who missed out from the last game due to a niggle on the neck, is ready to dazzle the last league match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024/25 as Delhi will be hosting the Railways team starting from January 30. As we all know, this is Kohli’s first Ranji Trophy match since a very long time. 4,472 days, to be precise. In between, he has dominating world cricket, toppling every batting chart possible.

What happened the last time Virat Kohli played a Ranji game?

But what did happen when Kohli last played a Ranji Trophy game? Well, it was a game filled with superstars as well. Virender Sehwag was Delhi’s captain back then and interestingly, even Gautam Gambhir played it. The Ranji Trophy fixture was against Uttar Pradesh, which was led by none other than Suresh Raina.

Let us discuss what happened in that game. The tie attracted a lot of eyeballs, with the match getting hosted in a local ground in Ghaziabad, UP. The toss was won by the hosts, with UP electing to field first. It was a middling innings by the Delhi batters. The iconic pair of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag opened for the state team, scoring 32 and 25, respectively. One down was another young batter in Unmukt Chand, followed by the man Virat Kohli. Both failed as well, with Kohli scoring just 14 runs before getting dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Interestingly, Bhuvneshwar got Kohli in both the innings.

Delhi made just 235 but UP replied magnificently, hammering 403 and taking a lead of 168. Mukul Dagar scored a ton for UP, while Mohammed Kaif made 91. Ashish Nehra took 3 wickets and Ishant took a couple as well. But the highlight of the match came when Sehwag scored a resilient century in the third innings, despite enduring a finger injury. UP went for an outright win. Kohli batted at number three and made 43. Delhi made 322, giving UP a mere target of 155. Starts from every batter made UP outright victors!
