Gautam Gambhir living on thin ice, BCCI irked by Indian head coach’s ‘intrusive’ PA

Gambhir is 6 out of 6 in T20Is but has won just 3 out of the 10 Test matches as head coach and is yet to get a win in ODIs.

Indian cricket isn’t in a healthy place right now. A captain dropping himself, factions inside the dressing room, the head coach indirectly hinting at wanting senior players to play domestic cricket, the board giving an ultimatum to the head coach, and other things as well.

Apparently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) aren’t too pleased with Gautam Gambhir. Of course, one of the major reasons is his performance since taking over, especially in Test cricket. A humiliating first-ever whitewash in Indian cricket history at home, which was followed by losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade. Things may have reached a point where the BCCI might take a call on his future depending on how the India cricket team performs in the ICC Champions Trophy.

BCCI unhappy with BCCI’s personal assistant

But there seems to be another issue. BCCI isn’t pleased with Gambhir’s PA (personal assistant). His presence in the dressing room didn’t win the board over, but now it seems he’s overstepped quite a bit. According to PTI, the person in question was sitting inside the car when Gambhir had a chat with selectors.

“Why was his PA sitting in the car specified for national selectors? They can’t even discuss things in private with an unknown third person in the car. Why was he allotted space in the BCCI’s hospitality box in Adelaide?” an irritated BCCI told PTI.

The personal assistant in question also mingled with players after the match ended in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season while donning a franchise jersey. To see him in the Indian dressing room and being present in chats related to selection didn’t impress people in power at the BCCI.

“How did he have breakfast in the cordoned-off area of a five-star facility which is just earmarked for the team members?” he asked.
