For the third consecutive season, Meg Lanning and her team came agonizingly close to clinching the Women’s Premier League (WPL) title but ended up falling short. The WPL 2025 final turned out to be a mirror image of the 2023 final, with the only difference being the margin of defeat.
On Saturday, Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) faced Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) in the WPL 2025 final. Unfortunately for DC-W, history repeated itself as they once again failed to cross the finish line. MI-W emerged victorious, securing their second WPL title in three seasons with a narrow eight-run win.
This victory marked MI’s second title in the WPL and their 11th trophy overall across various tournaments globally. The final began with DC-W captain Meg Lanning winning the toss and opting to field first. MI-W got off to a shaky start, losing both openers for just 14 runs. However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the ship with a crucial partnership of 87 runs in 10.2 overs. Sciver-Brunt contributed a steady 30 off 28 balls, while Kaur led from the front with a commendable knock. This strong stand proved pivotal in MI-W’s ultimate triumph.
