The Indian team faced an uphill battle in the first half of Day 1, but Ashwin and Jadeja launched a stunning comeback, adding nearly 200 runs to the total in a single session.

After the end of Day 1’s play in Chennai, Sachin Tendulkar posted an apt tweet, saying ‘from despair to domination’. After all, the Indian fans were enthralled with a day that swung like a pendulum. The opening Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai saw the visitors dominate the first half. Hasan Mahmud tore into the Indian top-order, reducing them to 144/6.

Ashwin-Jadeja: Worth weight in Gold

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, the top two ICC-ranked Test all-rounders, did the unthinkable. They negotiated a tough phase before mauling down Bangladesh and pouncing on every loose delivery. Ashwin, in particular, looked to dominate from the onset. He played some delightful strokes, hammering the pacers and spinners equally. Jadeja, meanwhile, kept his wicket intact, going aerial once in a while. Ashwin broke several records with his stunning knock as well.

The two batted the entire third session to take India’s total from 144/6 to 339/6 by the end of play on Day 1. It has been a fabulous stand by the duo, mustering a 195-run partnership in just 230 balls. While Ashwin is unbeaten at 102, Jaddu (86) will eye to complete his ton tomorrow. The entire cricketing fraternity, including the ‘God’ Sachin Tendulkar, was in awe of the Ashwin-Jadeja duo.
